Cambrex has announced the successful completion of a $38 million expansion project at its small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility in High Point, North Carolina. This expansion project has effectively doubled the manufacturing capacity of the facility. It includes the addition of state-of-the-art chemical and analytical development laboratories, the introduction of two new clinical manufacturing suites, and the establishment of a small-scale commercial manufacturing operation featuring three work centers and 2,000-liter reactors.
When we initiated this project in 2021, our vision stretched beyond mere capacity, explained Tom Loewald, CEO of Cambrex. We designed a facility capable of not only meeting current customer needs but also adapting to the evolving industry landscape. This involved incorporating cutting-edge laboratory technology and equipment, energy-efficient infrastructure, and versatile manufacturing capabilities, spanning from clinical to commercial production.
The capabilities in High Point complement those of Snapdragon Chemistry, a company acquired previously, which specializes in API batch and continuous flow process development. The synergy between Snapdragon Chemistry and the High Point expansion enables customers to streamline their flow chemistry needs, from research and development through to commercialization, under a single supplier.
Furthermore, this expansion has resulted in the creation of over 70 new jobs as Cambrex actively recruits expert pharmaceutical research and development professionals for the region. Dan Bowles, Vice President and General Manager of Cambrex High Point, expressed enthusiasm about this growth in North Carolina, acknowledging the pivotal support provided by the state's economic development programs and leadership in cultivating a skilled and diverse workforce in the area.
Cambrex continues to enhance its capabilities across its extensive North American and European network to meet the increasing demand for outsourced manufacturing and product development services.
