AbbVie Invests $70 Million to Boost U.S. Biologics Manufacturing & R&D

Introduction:

AbbVie has started construction on a $70 million expansion at its AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, Massachusetts. The centre serves as a hub for biologics research, development, and manufacturing. This expansion is part of AbbVie’s wider commitment to invest over $10 billion in the U.S. to support innovation and increase biologics manufacturing capacity.

Key Features:

The expansion will increase domestic biologics manufacturing capacity to meet rising global demand and support the production of current and next-generation oncology and immunology medicines.

It includes the construction of additional manufacturing areas and a three-storey building with laboratory, warehouse, and office space.

The project will also facilitate the transfer of select oncology products from Europe to the U.S., strengthening AbbVie’s ability to deliver complex biologic medicines efficiently.

The investment will create new jobs at the Worcester site and expand AbbVie’s U.S. manufacturing footprint, which already supports more than 6,000 employees across 11 manufacturing sites.

AbbVie has a presence in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, employing 28,000 people in the U.S., including over 2,000 in Massachusetts.
