AstraZeneca Announces $50 Billion Investment in US R&D and Manufacturing Facilities

Introduction:

AstraZeneca has announced a major investment of $50 billion in the United States. The investment will strengthen the company’s presence in both research and development (R&D) and medicines manufacturing, creating tens of thousands of highly skilled jobs and expanding access to next-generation treatments.

The new facility will specialize in small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides and will be AstraZeneca’s largest manufacturing investment to date.

Integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics to enhance production efficiency.

Expansion of the R&D site in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Development of a new R&D centre in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts
New manufacturing facilities for cell therapy in Rockville, Maryland, and Tarzana, California.

Upgrades to continuous manufacturing in Mount Vernon, Indiana.

Expansion of specialty manufacturing in Coppell, Texas.

The projects are scheduled to be completed by 2030.
