AstraZeneca's $1.5B Investment in Singapore for Antibody Drug Conjugates
Introduction
AstraZeneca has announced plans to invest $1.5 billion in a new manufacturing facility in Singapore dedicated to antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).
Features
This initiative aims to boost the global supply of its ADC portfolio. AstraZeneca is set to invest $1.5 billion in a new manufacturing facility in Singapore dedicated to antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), from antibody production to the final ADC product.
ADCs are advanced treatments that deliver cancer-killing agents directly to cancer cells using targeted antibodies.
This Greenfield facility, supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), will be the company's first-ever site to cover the full manufacturing process for ADCs.
This end-to-end facility for novel ADCs enhances our biopharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities and talent, strengthens the ecosystem for precision medicines, and creates meaningful jobs and economic opportunities for Singapore
The manufacturing steps will include antibody production, synthesis of the chemotherapy drug and linker, conjugation of the drug-linker to the antibody, and filling of the completed ADC substance.
Design and construction of the facility are slated to begin by the end of 2024, with a target for operational readiness by 2029.
The facility will also focus on sustainability, aiming to emit zero carbon from its first day of operations.
