Cambrex Expands Milan R&D Operations With US$30 Million Investment

Introduction:

Cambrex has begun construction of a new research and development facility at its Profarmico Milano site in Italy, supported by a US$30 million investment. The initiative is designed to expand analytical development and process R&D capabilities while strengthening the site’s manufacturing infrastructure for complex small molecule pharmaceuticals.

Features:

The project includes improvements across multiple production plants at the Milan campus.
These upgrades are intended to modernize existing infrastructure, increase operational flexibility and enhance the site’s ability to support pharmaceutical development and manufacturing programs.

Cambrex has also secured additional land adjacent to the current facility.

The newly acquired space creates opportunities for future infrastructure development and provides room for potential capacity expansion as demand for contract development and manufacturing services grows.

The combined investment in R&D infrastructure, production capabilities and expansion space is expected to create a more integrated platform for supporting clients throughout the pharmaceutical development lifecycle.

Enhanced analytical and process development capabilities will enable the site to address increasingly sophisticated technical requirements, while manufacturing upgrades can support greater efficiency and scalability.

Through this expansion, Cambrex aims to strengthen its European CDMO footprint and position the Milan operation for long-term growth in complex small molecule development and manufacturing.
