Eli Lilly to Expand European Footprint with $3B Oral Medicines Plant in Netherlands

Eli Lilly and Company plans to invest $3 billion in a new manufacturing facility in Katwijk, located within the Leiden Bio Science Park in the Netherlands. The project aims to expand the company’s capacity for oral medicines and support global supply needs.
Features
The new facility will focus on producing oral solid medicines for cardiometabolic health, oncology, neuroscience and immunology.
It will use advanced manufacturing methods including full dock-to-dock automation, paperless production systems and real-time quality monitoring through process analytical technology.
It will also apply spray-dried dispersion technology to improve how medicines are absorbed by patients.
The facility is expected to create 500 permanent high-skilled jobs, along with around 1,500 construction roles during the building phase.
