Genentech Begins US$750 Million Expansion of Oregon Manufacturing Facility
Introduction
Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, has started construction on a US$750 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Oregon. The 211,000-square-foot project will double the existing site’s footprint and increase US production capacity for advanced drug delivery devices.
Features
The expanded facility will introduce device fill-finish capabilities, including production of combination products, to Genentech’s US manufacturing network.
Flexible filling lines will support both high- and low-volume production across medicines used in oncology, neurology and immunology.
The development is expected to create approximately 250 high-value manufacturing positions.
These roles will cover filling and inspection, device assembly and packaging, cold storage and quality control.
The workforce will also incorporate digital expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence, automation and robotics.
Construction is expected to generate around 200 additional jobs during the development phase.
Established in 2006, the Hillsboro campus currently spans 75 acres and supports drug product manufacturing, packaging, distribution and personalised therapies.
The expansion will strengthen its role within Genentech’s US supply network and support domestic access to medicines.
The project forms part of Roche and Genentech’s wider US investment programme covering research, development and manufacturing, alongside recent investments in North Carolina and Massachusetts.
