Gilead Sciences Breaks Ground on $32 Billion U.S. Manufacturing Facility
Introduction:
Gilead Sciences has begun construction on a new Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Technical Development Center (NTDC) at its headquarters in Foster City, California. The five-storey, 180,000 square foot facility is part of the company’s $32 billion planned U.S. investment, aimed at strengthening domestic biopharmaceutical research, manufacturing, and innovation.
Features:
The NTDC will serve as a hub for technical development and manufacturing, featuring flexible pilot laboratory space, advanced digital infrastructure, autonomous robotics, and real-time monitoring systems.
The facility is designed to accelerate technology transfer and support the development of next-generation biologics across Gilead’s pipeline, making it one of the most digitally advanced and AI-enabled centres in the biopharmaceutical industry.
This investment is expected to generate over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute more than $43 billion in economic value across the United States.
The project also builds on Gilead’s existing efforts to expand research and manufacturing, including a new research building currently under construction and a biologics manufacturing facility to increase domestic production capacity.
