Hikma Pharma Invests $267M to Expand Ohio Manufacturing Operations
Introduction:
Hikma Pharmaceuticals has announced a major expansion of its manufacturing operations in Ohio, USA, with a total investment of $267 million. The project will strengthen the company’s pharmaceutical production capacity across its facilities in Columbus and Bedford, while creating 350 new jobs. The investment supports the growing demand for domestically produced generic medicines and reinforces Ohio’s position as a key pharmaceutical manufacturing hub.
Features:
The expansion programme includes two major projects. In Bedford, Hikma will invest $51 million to enhance its sterile injectable medicines manufacturing capabilities.
The project will add advanced aseptic vial filling and lyophilisation capacity, alongside increased IV bag production, warehousing and distribution operations.
The Bedford expansion is expected to create up to 300 new jobs and will help improve the supply of essential injectable medicines for hospitals and healthcare providers across the United States.
In Columbus, the company will invest $216 million to expand its oral solid dose and nasal inhalation manufacturing operations.
The project will create an additional 50 jobs and further strengthen the site’s role as one of Hikma’s largest production centres.
The Columbus facility already employs more than 1,200 people and serves as one of the company’s global research and development hubs.
The investment forms part of Hikma’s broader strategy to increase domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity.
The company’s facilities in Ohio and New Jersey currently have the capability to produce more than 12 billion finished doses annually, supporting the supply of affordable generic medicines and helping address critical drug shortages.
