Hovione Opens US$100 milllion East Windsor Pharma Manufacturing Expansion
Introduction
Pharmaceutical CDMO Hovione has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at its East Windsor campus in New Jersey, completing its current US$100 million US investment programme. The expansion doubles Hovione’s US spray-drying capacity and strengthens its pharmaceutical development and manufacturing capabilities.
Features
The new 89 Twin Rivers facility includes two GMP-ready, commercial-scale PSD-3 spray dryers designed to support pharmaceutical development and commercial manufacturing.
The expansion integrates formulation development, spray drying and drug product manufacturing within Hovione’s existing East Windsor campus, operating under its FDA registration and unified quality system.
The facility focuses on addressing poor aqueous solubility, a common challenge in small-molecule drug development.
Spray-drying technology can convert poorly soluble drug substances into amorphous solid dispersions designed to improve bioavailability.
The investment is expected to create approximately 80 jobs and builds on Hovione’s more than 25 years of spray-drying expertise.
The company also plans to develop an adjacent 125,000-square-foot manufacturing facility over the next five to 10 years.
The planned expansion will include additional laboratories, commercial-scale spray drying and drug product manufacturing capabilities.
