Merck Invests €70 Million to Expand ADC Manufacturing for Cancer Therapies in the U.S.

Introduction:

Merck Company has announced €70 million to expand its ADC manufacturing capabilities in the USA. This expansion will significantly increase capacity, tripling the current levels, and strengthen the company’s contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services, reaffirming its dedication to supporting clients and patients.

Features:

This expansion focuses on enhancing capacity, scaling utilities, and upgrading Process and Analytical Development (PAD) laboratories.

These improvements are intended to offer robust support for early-stage and commercial bioconjugates, helping clients accelerate the delivery of their innovations to market.

The company’s strategy centres on advancing the development of Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs), a pioneering approach in oncology that enables targeted therapies with reduced impact on healthy tissues.

The expanding ADC market reflects their growing adoption as first-line treatments, potentially reducing the need for more invasive methods such as chemotherapy and radiation.

The project will involve upgrading a 3,200 m² area to enhance capabilities across several key departments, including Process and Analytical Development, Quality Control, Research and Development, Manufacturing, and Logistics. Planned additions include new laboratories, a dedicated manufacturing buffer preparation facility, as well as cold storage, and a GMP-compliant controlled room temperature (CRT) warehouse near the existing facility.

These expansions aim to streamline operations and improve turnaround times for the development and delivery of innovative therapies.

The expansion will be completed by 2028.
