Moderna Expands U.S. Manufacturing Capabilities with $140M Investment
Introduction
Moderna, Inc. is expanding its U.S. manufacturing capabilities by onshoring Drug Product production to its Moderna Technology Center (MTC) in Norwood, Massachusetts. This development completes the company’s domestic end-to-end mRNA manufacturing network, supporting both clinical and commercial supply of its vaccines and therapeutics.

The expansion will create hundreds of skilled biomanufacturing jobs in the local community.
By consolidating all stages of mRNA production at the Norwood facility, Moderna strengthens its domestic production capacity and enhances its ability to deliver a range of mRNA medicines, including vaccines and therapeutics for infectious diseases, cancer, rare diseases, and autoimmune disorders.
The onshoring initiative reflects Moderna’s commitment to U.S.-based infrastructure and self-reliance in biomanufacturing.
Year of Completion
Construction at the Norwood site is underway, with the new Drug Product manufacturing capabilities expected to be operational by the first half of 2027.
