Octapharma Announces US$1.5 Billion Plasma Manufacturing Facility in South Carolina

Introduction

Octapharma has announced plans to develop its first US-based manufacturing and production facility at Palmetto Research Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina, with an investment of US $1.5 billion. The project is expected to create around 1,500 full-time jobs and strengthen the US supply chain for plasma-derived therapies. The facility will expand Octapharma’s global manufacturing network while supporting the production of essential medicines for patients requiring specialised treatments.

Facility Features

The new Rock Hill facility will be designed as an advanced biopharmaceutical manufacturing site focused on producing Octapharma’s portfolio of plasma-derived therapies, including treatments for immune disorders, bleeding management and trauma care. 

The site will support domestic production of FDA-approved medicines, improving supply reliability by bringing manufacturing closer to US plasma collection centres and patients. 

The facility will also contribute to national healthcare preparedness by supporting the availability of critical therapies during emergency situations. 

Located within South Carolina’s growing life sciences ecosystem, the site will benefit from skilled workforce availability, advanced infrastructure and strong logistics connectivity to enable efficient large-scale manufacturing operations.
