Sharp Services Invests Over €20 Million to Expand European Injectable Packaging
Introduction:
Sharp Services has announced a major investment of more than €20 million to expand its European facilities for injectable drug packaging. The move responds to growing demand for complex injectable formats and aims to increase production and storage capacity across Belgium and the Netherlands.
Features:
The Hamont-Achel facility in Belgium will see a fourfold increase in cold-chain warehouse space and a doubling of ambient storage capacity.
A new syringe assembly and blister packaging suite will also be added. Additional device assembly and packaging lines will be introduced.
Collaborative robot (Cobot) technology will improve efficiency on pre-filled syringe and autoinjector lines.
The Belgian site will also benefit from a new carport solar system, expected to supply 50% of the facility’s electricity, supporting Sharp’s sustainability targets.
In the Netherlands, the Heerenveen facility will expand GMP production with two new Grade D packaging suites, enabling new syringe assembly, packaging, and vial packaging programmes.
The expansion projects are scheduled for completion in 2026, with new facilities and systems coming online during the year.
