TheWell Bioscience Unveils VitroGel® NEURON – a Synthetic Hydrogel for Advanced Neuronal Cell Culture

TheWell Bioscience Inc. has introduced VitroGel® NEURON, a fully synthetic, xeno-free hydrogel designed to support both three-dimensional and two-dimensional neuronal cell culture as well as in vivo delivery.

The new platform aims to address the limitations of animal-derived matrices by providing a reproducible, scalable, and defined environment for neuronal growth, differentiation, and network formation.

Unlike traditional extracellular matrices, which mainly enable two-dimensional neuron attachment, VitroGel® NEURON supports complex three-dimensional cell structures and functions as an injectable carrier.

It has been engineered to enhance cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions and is compatible with a broad range of neuronal cell types.

This versatility makes it suitable for neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disease modelling, drug screening, neurotoxicity testing, and regenerative medicine applications such as spinal cord repair and cell therapy delivery.

The ready-to-use system provides consistent performance and removes the variability of animal-based matrices, supporting the global shift towards reducing animal use in research and development.

By offering a reliable platform for neuronal culture and delivery, VitroGel® NEURON enables more clinically relevant results and accelerates the translation of discoveries from the laboratory to therapeutic applications.

The launch marks a significant step in TheWell Bioscience’s strategy to advance 3D cell culture technologies for precision medicine, cell therapy, and biomanufacturing.
