Julie Kim

Takeda has officially appointed Julie Kim as Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer, completing the company's 18-month CEO succession plan. 

The appointment was finalized following Takeda's 150th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in Osaka, Japan, where shareholders elected Kim as an internal member of the Board of Directors before the board confirmed her as Representative Director, President and CEO. She succeeds Christophe Weber, who retired from both the company and its board upon the conclusion of the meeting.

Julie Kim brings more than 30 years of global healthcare experience and has built a strong track record in driving innovation, expanding patient access to transformative medicines, and delivering long-term business growth. She joined Takeda in 2019 through the acquisition of Shire and has since held several senior leadership positions, including President of the Plasma-Derived Therapies Business Unit and President of the U.S. Business Unit, before being named CEO-elect in 2025.

Alongside Kim's appointment, Takeda announced changes to its Board of Directors as the company enters its next phase of growth. Shareholders elected three new external directors: Bruce Broussard, Koichiro Kimura, and Paul Stoffels.

Broussard brings decades of executive leadership experience with multinational organizations and deep expertise in the U.S. healthcare sector. Kimura, the former Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers Japan, offers extensive knowledge of corporate governance and geopolitical risk across the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Stoffels is widely recognized for his leadership in pharmaceutical research and development, having overseen the global launch of 25 medicines during his tenure as Chief Scientific Officer at Johnson & Johnson before later serving as Chief Executive Officer of Galapagos.

These leadership appointments reinforce Takeda's commitment to innovation, strong corporate governance, and sustainable global growth as the company continues to advance its patient-focused strategy.
