Michael J. Parini

Biogen Inc. has appointed Michael J. Parini as its Chief Legal Officer.

In his new role, Parini will serve as a member of the company's Executive Committee and report directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher A. Viehbacher. 
He will oversee Biogen's global legal and compliance functions, supporting the company's strategic and operational objectives.

Parini joins Biogen with more than 20 years of legal, business, and executive leadership experience across the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Spur Therapeutics, where he led a company transformation by redefining its scientific strategy and advancing a rare disease program from the preclinical stage into Phase 3 clinical development.

Prior to Spur Therapeutics, Parini held several senior leadership positions at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, ultimately serving as Chief Administrative, Legal and Business Development Officer. As a member of Vertex's Executive Committee, he oversaw legal, compliance, business development, human resources, information technology, quality, and corporate communications. During his tenure, he played a key role in the acquisitions of Exonics Therapeutics and Semma Therapeutics and helped negotiate market access agreements for cystic fibrosis therapies across the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Australia, and Spain.

Earlier in his career, Parini held multiple senior legal positions at Pfizer, including Chief Litigation Counsel, where he gained extensive experience in corporate legal strategy and regulatory matters.

Parini holds a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law and a Bachelor of Arts in American Government and Politics from Georgetown University. His appointment further strengthens Biogen's executive leadership as the company continues advancing its global business and innovation strategy.
