Dr. Aaron Koenig
Syremis Therapeutics has appointed Aaron Koenig, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer, strengthening its executive leadership as the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company advances the development of novel therapies for mental health disorders.
Dr. Koenig brings extensive expertise in psychiatry and drug development, with significant experience in advancing treatments for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease. In his new role, he will lead Syremis Therapeutics' clinical development strategy and oversee the advancement of the company's pipeline of innovative mental health therapies.
Before joining Syremis Therapeutics, Dr. Koenig served as Chief Medical Officer at Syndeio Biosciences and Delix Therapeutics, where he directed the clinical development of multiple novel neuropsychiatric drug candidates. Earlier, he held leadership positions at Sage Therapeutics, leading several neuropsychiatry programs, including therapeutic candidates designed to address cognitive impairment associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Koenig worked as a clinical investigator at the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and served as a practicing psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital. His combined experience in clinical practice and pharmaceutical development has positioned him as a leader in the advancement of innovative therapies for neurological and psychiatric conditions.
Dr. Koenig is board-certified in both psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his postdoctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health.
His appointment reflects Syremis Therapeutics' commitment to strengthening its clinical leadership as it advances next-generation medicines aimed at improving outcomes for patients living with mental health disorders.
