Ray Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing optogenetic gene therapies for vision restoration, has appointed Michael Murtagh as Chief Regulatory Officer.

Murtagh brings more than 20 years of regulatory affairs experience, having led multiple Investigational New Drug (IND) applications, Clinical Trial Applications (CTAs), and global marketing submissions across rare disease indications. His expertise spans oncology, cardiovascular disease, neurology, and inborn errors of metabolism, with experience supporting diverse therapeutic modalities throughout all phases of development.

Prior to joining Ray Therapeutics, Murtagh served as Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at AAVantgarde Bio, where he directed global regulatory strategy. He previously held senior regulatory leadership positions at Vedere Bio II and Astellas Gene Therapies (formerly Audentes Therapeutics), contributing to the advancement of innovative gene therapy programs.

Earlier in his career, Murtagh held regulatory leadership roles at BioMarin Pharmaceutical, where he helped shape global regulatory strategies for novel biologic and gene therapy products. His appointment strengthens Ray Therapeutics’ regulatory capabilities as the company advances its optogenetic pipeline toward key clinical and regulatory milestones.
